Lithuanian health experts explain fatigue signals and sports injury prevention
Geneticist and longevity researcher Dr. Vaidas Dirsė explained that what is often called laziness can be a biological response known as “sickness behavior.” The phenomenon redirects energy from activity to immune defence during illness. Survey data from the National Well‑being Index show that one‑third of Lithuanians report low daily energy, with 14 % feeling constantly tired and 20 % moderately fatigued. Among those with sleep problems, 71 % report reduced activity, and 38 % do not exercise at all.
Sports‑medicine physician Mykolas Butvila and NBA player Kasparas Jakučionis highlighted injury‑prevention strategies for young athletes. During an NBA‑run camp in Vilnius (26 July–1 August), participants underwent strength, flexibility, stability and coordination testing overseen by Hila physiotherapists. The experts stressed that proper warm‑up, balanced training, adequate sleep and professional assessment are essential to reduce the risk of musculoskeletal injuries in growing athletes.
