Lithuanian households expand solar use with financing and price‑timing tips

GF Bank commercial officer Skirmantas Ketvirtis says financing is not the main obstacle for residents installing rooftop solar panels and battery storage. Installations can be purchased on instalment plans, with typical solar systems costing €4‑6 k and combined solar‑plus‑storage projects €10‑12 k. With support from the Environmental Projects Management Agency, payback periods are about 2‑3 years; without subsidies they extend to roughly four years, depending on system size, consumption patterns, electricity prices, and the presence of heat pumps, storage or electric vehicles. Energy storage increases self‑consumption, especially when evening demand is high.

Enefit energy products manager Simonas Jasiulis adds that households can further reduce bills by aligning appliance use with Nord Pool’s 15‑minute electricity price fluctuations. Shifting tasks such as washing or dish‑washing to cheaper periods can cut costs dramatically, as illustrated by a recent price swing where daytime rates were €0.41 ct/kWh versus €13.95 ct/kWh at night.
