Lithuanian Medal Triennial returns to Kaunas with 99 works
The XIII Lithuanian Medal Triennial exhibition is set to open on November 5 at the Osvaldo Daugelio Library of the M. K. Čiurlionis National Art Museum in Kaunas. The event, which features 99 works, marks the return of this long-standing project to Kaunas after a multi-decade hiatus.
A central theme of this year's exhibition is the 500th anniversary of the birth of Princess Kotryna Jogailaite, a historical figure who linked the histories of Lithuania, Poland, and Sweden. Nine artists created new medals specifically to commemorate her legacy and her role in connecting the Baltic Sea region.
The exhibition also highlights the centenary of the establishment of Lithuanian bishoprics, with particular focus on the personalities of the Telšiai Diocese. The collection showcases the technical mastery and artistic diversity of contemporary Lithuanian medal art, reflecting traditions maintained through creative workshops and international medal art camps.
