Lithuanian municipal leaders visit war-affected regions in Ukraine

A delegation of Lithuanian mayors, deputy mayors, and administration directors conducted a visit to Ukraine from October 6 to 10. Organized by the Association of Local Authorities of Lithuania and the Lithuanian Embassy in Ukraine, the delegation traveled through Poltava, Kharkiv, Kyiv, and the Chernihiv region.

In Kharkiv, the group met with Mayor Ihor Terekhov to inspect residential buildings damaged by attacks and evaluate ongoing reconstruction efforts. They also visited an underground school operating in a metro station and met with Ukrainian military brigades. Discussions focused on infrastructure recovery, including road repairs and heating supply during emergencies.

In Kyiv, officials discussed the role of local government in ensuring public safety and service delivery with Mayor Vitali Klitschko and representatives from the Ministry of Health and the State Emergency Service. In the Chernihiv region, the delegation visited hospitals and a school basement that served as a shelter for civilians during the occupation. The visit concluded with an inspection of border fortifications near the Belarusian border.
