Lithuanian municipalities host Senior Picnics to promote elderly community engagement

The non-governmental organization ‘Senjoro’ has continued its tradition of hosting ‘Senior Picnics’ across various Lithuanian municipalities to promote social connection and active lifestyles for the elderly.

In Marijampolė, the event featured musical performances by the ensemble ‘Bočiai’ and the ‘Godos’ choir, alongside light physical exercises led by the Public Health Bureau. Valdas Tumelis, acting mayor of Marijampolė, attended the gathering, noting the importance of the initiative in fostering community and vitality among seniors.

In Jonava, the organization held its first picnic at Ramybės Square. Karolina Puidaitė-Railė, the Kaunas regional leader for ‘Senjoro’, stated that the primary goal is to encourage seniors to enjoy life in the present moment and build community ties. The organization provides various social services, including home care and day social care, to help seniors remain in their comfortable home environments for as long as possible.
