Lithuanian municipalities implement energy-efficient infrastructure upgrades

Lithuanian municipalities are implementing infrastructure projects focused on energy efficiency and modernization.

Vilkaviškis District Municipality has introduced its first electric buses to the streets. While initial services follow existing routes, a full transition to optimized routes serviced by 18 electric buses is scheduled to begin on November 11. The new vehicles feature a visual identity inspired by local history and the Sūduva landscape.

In Panevėžys, a street lighting modernization project exceeding 5 million euros has been completed. The project involved upgrading 4,095 lamps, which is expected to reduce electricity consumption by approximately 40 percent, saving an estimated 1.11 GWh annually. The initiative was funded by a 3.11 million euro subsidy from the European Regional Development Fund alongside municipal funds.
