Lithuanian National Library expands cultural initiatives
The Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania is expanding its cultural outreach through two new initiatives. The “Knygų startas” (Book Start) project is entering its second stage, providing Lithuanian books to diaspora families living abroad. Following an initial phase that provided books for infants, the program will now distribute the book “Drambliai ėjo į svečius” by Evelina Daciūtė and Inga Dagilė to families with children up to five years old. These books are available through 63 Lithuanian diplomatic missions to help foster a connection to Lithuanian culture and identity for children growing up outside the country.
Additionally, the library is launching the “Atvirasis LNB kino klubas” (Open LNB Film Club) in Vilnius. Starting October 25, the club will host free monthly film screenings of various genres, ranging from animated films to dramas. Each session will include a discussion led by film critic Ieva Šukytė, aiming to create an open cultural space for community engagement and dialogue on themes such as identity and social relations.
