Lithuanian officials visit regions to discuss infrastructure and housing support

Lithuanian government officials conducted working visits to regional areas to address local infrastructure, security, and social support needs.

Interior Minister Martynas Katelynas visited Jonava to inspect the working conditions of emergency services. He noted that firefighters are currently operating out of a facility built in 1935 that no longer meets modern technical requirements. A technical project for a new fire prevention and rescue service building, which will include a shelter, is expected to be completed by late November. The minister emphasized the need for funding to move the project beyond the planning stage. Additionally, the 2027 state budget proposal includes provisions to increase funding for municipalities to raise minimum wage coefficients and basic salary levels for officials.

Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius visited Prienai and Birštonas to discuss regional development and housing accessibility. The government is preparing a family policy package aimed at increasing financial support for purchasing homes, particularly to encourage young families to settle outside major cities. The Prime Minister previously indicated a goal to increase funding for the first home program in regions to 50 million euros annually. Proposed measures include reviewing credit, income, and asset valuation criteria, as well as adjusting legal regulations to make home ownership easier in smaller towns.
