Lithuanian President Nauseda claims Russia has effectively lost war in Ukraine

During the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda stated that Russia has already effectively lost its war against Ukraine, though the defeat has not yet been formally recognized. He characterized Russia's aggression as the greatest threat to the current global order.

Nauseda noted that while Russia has captured only 0.3 percent of Ukrainian territory over the last year, it has done so at the cost of over 400,000 soldiers killed or wounded. He argued that Russian leadership refuses to acknowledge defeat due to fears of international legal accountability and potential domestic backlash.

Furthermore, the President highlighted that despite the conflict, Ukraine remains a sovereign state with a thriving national identity. He also addressed regional security concerns, mentioning threats to maritime freedom in the Strait of Hormuz and pledging Lithuania's support for international sea missions through mine-clearing capabilities.
