Lithuanian regional history celebrated through literature and oral storytelling
Cultural events in Lithuania have recently focused on preserving regional history and personal legacies through literature and oral storytelling.
In Raseiniai, writer and historian Marijona Birutė Navakauskienė presented four new books at the Marcelijaus Martinaitis Public Library. Her works include three books for young readers and one historical volume dedicated to the Milašaičiai region. Navakauskienė, a member of the Lithuanian Independent Writers' Union, has published 30 books and conducted extensive field research, including walking 1,000 kilometers to collect local stories and memories.
In the Ignalina district, the Ceikiniai Library hosted a live history event titled ‘Chronicle of Heart Memory’ as part of the ‘Connection with Place’ competition. The event centered on the life and memories of Antanina Taluntienė, featuring music from the Adutiškis village band and participation from the ‘Time with a Book’ reading club to celebrate local heritage and personal history.
