Lithuanian Rural Network launches Little Farmers project
The Lithuanian Rural Network is preparing for the next season of the ‘Little Farmers’ project, an initiative scheduled to launch in March 2027. The project aims to introduce students in grades 2–6 from urban areas to modern agriculture, fostering a positive emotional connection with rural life and breaking stereotypes that farming is merely difficult or dirty work.
Implemented through the technical support activities of the Lithuanian Agriculture and Rural Development Strategic Plan 2023–2027, the program consists of two stages: school-based education and field trips to farms. The educational activities are planned to take place between March and May 2027.
According to Jurgita Butrimienė of the Ministry of Agriculture, participating farms must meet specific criteria. They should be active in sectors such as plant or animal production, gardening, poultry, or beekeeping, and demonstrate a full production cycle. Additionally, farms are expected to implement sustainable and environmentally friendly practices, such as organic farming, waste sorting, composting, and soil conservation, while prioritizing animal welfare and resource management.
