Lithuanian seasonal produce reaches peak harvest in August
As summer concludes, seasonal produce in Lithuania is reaching peak flavor and quality, offering diverse culinary options for consumers.
Retail experts highlight chanterelle mushrooms as a highly anticipated seasonal ingredient. They are noted for being nutritious, low in calories, and easy to prepare, often paired with simple ingredients like butter, young potatoes, dill, and onions.
In addition to mushrooms, August features a variety of available crops including Lithuanian tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, grapes, plums, corn, and sunflowers. The first harvests of Lithuanian onions and carrots are also expected toward the end of the month. Plums are currently noted for their increased sweetness and variety, making them suitable for various recipes, such as grilled plum salads.
