Lithuanian Seimas reviews traffic and parking penalty amendments

The Lithuanian Seimas has begun reviewing several legislative amendments aimed at adjusting administrative penalties for various traffic and social violations.

One proposal, introduced by MP Algimantas Radvila, seeks to soften the penalties for overtaking cyclists in designated bicycle lanes. Currently, such an offense can lead to the revocation of a driver's license and fines between 170 and 230 euros. The proposed changes would replace license revocation with fines ranging from 60 to 90 euros. Additionally, the amendment introduces penalties for using unregistered electric micro-mobility devices or motorbikes that do not meet technical specifications, with repeat offenses potentially leading to vehicle confiscation.

Separately, MP Darius Razmislevičius has proposed stricter measures regarding the misuse of parking cards for persons with disabilities. The initiative seeks to impose fines between 60 and 140 euros for using such cards when the disabled person is not present in the vehicle. Repeat violations could result in higher fines. Furthermore, the proposal includes criminal liability for the forgery or illegal possession of disability parking cards, with potential penalties including imprisonment for up to four years.
