Lithuanian theatres announce upcoming performance seasons

Lithuanian theatres are preparing for the upcoming 2026–2027 season, with several major institutions in Kaunas and Vilnius announcing new programming and premieres.

The Lithuanian National Drama Theatre (LNDT) will launch its 87th season under the theme ‘Beyond Time’. The season will feature six premieres, including a production of ‘Madam Bovary’ directed by Croatian director Oliver Frljić. Scheduled for September 16–17, the play explores how societal and patriarchal expectations shape individual desires, adapting Gustave Flaubert’s classic novel for a modern context.

In Kaunas, multiple venues are unveiling their schedules. The Kaunas State Puppet Theatre will begin its 69th season on August 30 with the family production ‘Namai namučiai’ by Jūratė Trimakaitė. Other participating institutions include the National Kaunas Drama Theatre, the Kaunas State Musical Theatre, the Kaunas City Chamber Theatre, and the Aura Dance Theatre.
