Lithuania's forests turn autumn hues amid forecasted thunderstorms

As summer heat fades, Lithuanian forests begin their seasonal transformation. Birch trees are among the first to show yellow leaves, followed by the vivid purples of drebulės, while oak retains its green longest before turning russet. Maple provides the most varied palette, ranging from bright citrine yellows to deep fire reds. These color changes also help trees recycle nutrients back into the soil for the coming winter.

The national weather service predicts a week of mixed conditions, with short‑lived summer‑type rain showers and thunderstorms accompanied by winds of 15‑20 m/s. Temperatures are expected to rise to 22‑27 °C before cooling to 19‑21 °C in the evenings, with a possible peak of up to 32 °C later in the week. Cooler air masses will move in, especially along the Baltic Sea coast where temperatures will stay between 15‑17 °C.
