Lithuania's VSAT pledges continued support for Latvia's border security

Lithuanian State Border Guard Service (VSAT) announced that it will maintain its assistance to Latvia in securing the EU's external frontier. The agency has already dispatched two teams of nine officers each to Latvia and says future aid will be considered based on the evolving situation, but it has not confirmed whether the number of personnel will be increased.

Latvian Interior Minister Janis Dombrava has called for around 100 border officers, while Lithuanian Interior Minister Martynas Katelynas remarked that Lithuania cannot currently provide that many staff. Both countries, together with Poland, have reinforced border defenses and erected fence structures along the 172 km Latvian‑Belarusian frontier, accusing Belarusian President Aliaksandr Lukashenka of deliberately channeling migrants toward the EU border to exert political pressure.
