LITILIT secures 8 million euros for industrial femtosecond laser development

Lithuanian laser manufacturer LITILIT has secured 8 million euros in funding from the state development bank ILTE to develop FEMODA, a modular femtosecond laser system. The total project volume is estimated at 10 million euros, with LITILIT contributing 2 million euros from its own resources.

FEMODA is designed to achieve an average optical power of up to 1,000 watts, distributed across ten to twenty separate beam channels. This capability aims to transition femtosecond laser technology from the production of small, high-value components to large-scale industrial applications. Potential uses include the mass production of metal tools and applying specialized coatings to large surfaces, such as aircraft or vehicle bodies.

Femtosecond lasers utilize extremely short pulses to perform ‘cold ablation,’ a process that allows for material processing without significant thermal impact on surrounding structures. This technology is already utilized in chip and display production, as well as medical applications like eye surgery. The commercialization of the FEMODA system is planned for the second half of 2029.
