Lito Sousa battles rare Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease
Lito Sousa, a prominent Brazilian aviation influencer and creator of the YouTube channel ‘Aviões e Músicas’, has been diagnosed with Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD). This rare, neurodegenerative prion disease causes rapid deterioration of motor and cognitive functions and currently has no cure.
While hospitalized at Hospital Albert Einstein in São Paulo, Sousa reported a surprising partial recovery of movement in his left hand. His family, led by his wife Mila Seidl, is actively seeking his inclusion in clinical trials for experimental treatments, such as Ionis Pharmaceuticals’ ION717, which aims to disrupt the production of the prion protein. The family has also requested restricted hospital visits to ensure his rest and treatment continuity.
Despite the severity of his condition, Sousa recently celebrated a milestone of 4 million YouTube subscribers during a live broadcast from his hospital bed. He also remains tentatively committed to participating in the HJ Conference in Santa Catarina, provided his health permits.
