Lito Sousa receives Anvisa authorization for experimental medication

The Brazilian National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) has authorized the import and compassionate use of an experimental medication for aviation influencer and pilot Lito Sousa. Sousa, 59, is battling Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, a rare and incurable neurodegenerative condition caused by abnormal proteins known as prions.

His wife, Mila Seidl, confirmed that the authorization follows established legal regulations for compassionate use, which allows patients with serious illnesses to access unregistered drugs when no satisfactory therapeutic alternative exists. The family expects the medication to arrive in Brazil between September 11 and 13.

In a separate gesture of support, the Mini Mundo theme park in Gramado issued a public tribute to Sousa, recognizing his contributions to aviation knowledge and expressing solidarity with his family during his transition to home-based palliative care.
