Valorsul considers up to 400 million euro waste treatment investment

Valorsul is evaluating an investment of between 300 and 400 million euros to expand its waste treatment capacity. The project involves the construction of a fourth boiler at its energy recovery plant.

This expansion aims to increase the annual treatment capacity to 900,000 tons to meet the rising waste production across the 19 municipalities served by the company. Valorsul currently manages approximately 850,000 tons of urban waste annually for a population of about two million people.

In 2025, the company incinerated approximately 650,000 tons of waste and injected 372 gigawatts of electricity into the public grid. The investment plan was discussed during a visit by a delegation from the Portuguese Industrial Association (AIP) to mark the company's 32nd anniversary.
