Little Diamond Day/Night Care Centre opens in Guyana
The Little Diamond Day/Night Care and Early Childhood Development Centre has officially opened to provide childcare and early childhood support for families in Little Diamond and the East Bank of Demerara. Commissioned by Minister of Human Services and Social Security, Dr Vindhya Persaud, the facility is designed to support working parents, including those in single-parent households or those working irregular shifts.
The centre can accommodate 50 children during the day and 50 in the evening. While night-care services are scheduled to begin on October 1, the facility is already equipped with furnished learning spaces, play areas, and accessibility provisions for children and adults of all abilities.
The project was delivered through a partnership between the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security and the Basic Needs Trust Fund (BNTF). There are differing reports regarding the total investment value, with the Ministry valuing the facility at $170 million, while the BNTF described it as a $123.7 million investment facilitated through the Government of Guyana and the Caribbean Development Bank.
