Little Giant Fire destroys over 30 structures in Entiat Valley
The Little Giant Fire has destroyed at least 35 structures in the Entiat Valley, according to assessments by the Chelan County Assessor’s Office, Emergency Management, and Chelan County Fire District 8. The lost properties include two primary residences, 13 secondary homes or cabins, and more than 20 outbuildings.
Ignited by lightning on July 15 or 16, the blaze has burned approximately 134,600 acres and is currently 10% contained. While the fire has slowed slightly due to improved weather conditions, including higher moisture levels and lighter winds, hundreds of structures remain threatened. As of Monday afternoon, 272 structures were located within Level 3 ‘go now’ evacuation zones, primarily in the Entiat River Valley.
Firefighters have utilized strategic firing operations and controlled burns along Chiwawa River Road to strengthen control lines. Crews are also using masticators to remove vegetation and fuel along Pole Ridge. Smoke from the ongoing fire continues to impact air quality in the Wenatchee Valley and surrounding communities.
