Little Giant Fire in Washington's Chelan County burns nearly 800 acres

A lightning strike on July 15 ignited the Little Giant Fire in the Okanogan‑Wenatchee National Forest, about 30‑41 miles northwest of Leavenworth, Washington. By July 21 the blaze had grown to an estimated 793 acres and was only about 5% contained.

A Level 1 “Get Ready” fire advisory was issued for the Trinity area in Chelan County, with evacuation recommendations for Chiwawa River Road, Trinity Trail Head, Atkinson Flat Campground and nearby side roads. The fire is burning in steep, rocky terrain with no structures currently threatened, but Chiwawa Road (FS‑6200) remains closed and additional trail and road closures are possible. Fire suppression efforts include a Type 3 Incident Management Team, 31 personnel, one bulldozer, ground crews, smokejumpers and aerial water drops.
