Little House on the Prairie cast reveals on‑set drinking culture and acting approach

Alison Arngrim, who played Nellie Oleson, told the Here’s What Happened podcast that the adult crew on the original “Little House on the Prairie” set routinely smoked, drank large quantities of beer and had no health‑food options. She said the prop truck served as a bar, with cases of beer restocked daily, and that while the staff “lived on beer,” no one was visibly drunk while working.

In a separate interview, Netflix reboot star Warren Christie explained how he tackled his character’s most memorable line as Mr. Edwards. Christie said he avoids over‑planning dialogue, focusing instead on staying present with his co‑star and “being in the moment.” He also praised Alice Halsey’s performance as young Laura.

Both pieces reflect ongoing interest in the classic series’ behind‑the‑scenes culture and the new show’s approach to legacy characters.
