Litton Das Appointed Bangladesh ODI Captain, Returns for Test Series vs Australia

Litton Das, 31, has been named Bangladesh's new One Day International captain, succeeding Mehidy Hasan Miraz. He will lead the side through the 2027 World Cup and already captains the T20 team, having guided Bangladesh to a 2‑1 ODI series win over India in 2022.

Das recovered from a left calf muscle injury and has been cleared to join Bangladesh's squad for the opening Test against Australia in Darwin on 13 August. The Bangladesh Cricket Board confirmed his fitness and his travel to Australia. The series also sees Bangladesh coping with injuries to fast bowlers Nahid Rana and Tanzim Hasan Sakib, while the fitness of Shoriful Islam and Mustafizur Rahman remains uncertain. Najmul Hossain Shanto will remain Test captain, with Mehidy Hasan Miraz as vice‑captain.

The two‑match Test series, also scheduled in Mackay, offers Bangladesh a chance to improve its standing in the World Test Championship.
