Liu Jinsong arrives as China’s new ambassador to Australia

Liu Jinsong has arrived in Australia to begin his tenure as the 16th Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China. A veteran diplomat with 30 years of experience in various foreign ministries, Liu has been described by some media as having a ‘wolf warrior’ reputation.

Upon his arrival in Sydney, Liu met with prominent figures from the United Front, including Qian Qiguo and Tian Fei, to underscore the role of these groups in Australia. In a statement released following his arrival, Liu emphasized that while cooperation prospects are promising, Australia must respect Beijing’s ‘core interests and major concerns’ by ‘reserving differences.’

Liu noted that while the two nations have no fundamental conflicts of interest, managing expectations is crucial. He also credited President Xi Jinping with steering the course of China-Australia relations and expressed his commitment to safeguarding China’s national interests while serving Chinese compatriots in Australia.
