Liu Zhi-yu registers as independent candidate for Taipei City Council

Former child actress Liu Zhi-yu has officially registered as an independent candidate for the Taipei City Council, representing the Shilin and Beitou district. To avoid being identified by her family connections—her father is Liu Shang-chien and her brother is actor Liu Zhi-han—she has worked under a pseudonym for the past eight years as a service office director for City Councilor Hou Han-ting.

During her tenure, Liu handled legislative drafts, inquiries, and community petitions. Her decision to run for office was motivated by her experiences assisting vulnerable populations, leading her to pursue a degree in social work to better address systemic issues. Her father, Liu Shang-chien, expressed support for her decision to build local political experience, while her brother, Liu Zhi-han, accompanied her during the registration process, expressing both pride and concern regarding the competitive nature of the election.
