Liupanshui City in Guizhou markets cool‑summer lifestyle to attract tourists
Liupanshui City, located in Guizhou Province, China, has been promoted as a "Cool City" after the Chinese Meteorological Society highlighted its average summer temperature of 19 °C. The city is using this climate advantage to develop a new summer tourism model that blends nature, culture and extended stays.
From July to August the 30‑day Torch Festival showcases Yi cultural traditions with bonfires and torch ceremonies, while the 11th Liupanshui Marathon has expanded into a month‑long festival featuring 16 themed events, local food stalls and a large Guizhou luoguo festival. Organisers encourage visitors to remain beyond the race, exploring attractions such as the Wumeng Grassland.
Liupanshui is also promoting long‑term summer residency, offering incentives for dining, shopping, transport and tourism, and emphasizing its 62 % forest coverage, fresh air and wellness facilities. The initiative aims to convert visitor flows into lasting economic growth and a lifestyle choice for summer months.
