LIV Golf cancels Michigan team championship to end season in Indianapolis
LIV Golf has officially canceled its scheduled season-ending team championship in Michigan, originally set for August 27-30. The league announced that the Indianapolis tournament at The Club at Chatham Hills will now serve as the season finale, where both the individual and team champions will be crowned.
The decision follows the announcement that the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund (PIF) will cease its financial backing of the league after the current season. In response to this transition, LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil stated that the early conclusion of the season will allow the organization to focus its resources on a new business model for 2027, which reportedly involves a lead investor and a player-equity ownership structure.
The league is also facing financial and legal challenges, including reports of unpaid debts to various vendors and a lawsuit from Fresh Tape Media for over $1.2 million. Additionally, the Indianapolis event will see cost-cutting measures, including the cancellation of scheduled musical performances by Thomas Rhett and Disco Lines.
