LIV Golf cancels Michigan Team Championship
The LIV Golf Team Championship, scheduled to take place in Michigan at the end of August, has been cancelled according to reports from The Telegraph. While the league has not issued an official public statement, players have reportedly been informed that the $30 million event will not proceed.
This cancellation follows months of uncertainty regarding the league's financial stability. The Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund (PIF) has reportedly withdrawn its funding, citing a shift in investment strategy after losing over £1 billion in five years. In response, LIV executives are reportedly working on a plan referred to as ‘LIV 2.0’ to manage a potentially trimmed-down schedule.
Controversy has also emerged regarding ticket sales, as the LIV Golf website continues to offer tickets for the cancelled Michigan event. Additionally, the league faces scrutiny over a $1.2 million arrangement with Louisiana for a postponed New Orleans tournament that has yet to be repaid.
