Saudi Public Investment Fund pullback threatens LIV Golf's future
The Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund (PIF) announced it will cease financing LIV Golf at the end of 2026, leaving the league’s 2027 season uncertain. Players and officials have voiced concerns about the funding gap, with Scott Vincent, who replaced Phil Mickelson on the tour, saying the situation has "changed my life" and expressing optimism that the league will continue. Bryson DeChambeau highlighted that he still holds exemptions and is exploring options beyond a return to the PGA Tour, including focusing on his YouTube channel.
The funding withdrawal has already caused event cancellations and rescheduling, and several LIV members, such as DeChambeau, have not competed since the U.S. Open. The league is scheduled to resume with a UK tournament at Birkdale in late June, but its longer‑term viability remains in doubt as players await clarification from the organization and its backers.
