LIV Golf undergoes major restructuring and staff cuts
LIV Golf is undergoing a major restructuring following the decision by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) to cease funding after the 2026 season. The league has announced significant staff reductions as it attempts to transition toward a new model referred to as ‘LIV 2.0’.
As part of this financial restructuring, which includes a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing on September 8 involving BC Partners Credit, the league is drastically reducing tournament purses. Reports shared with players suggest a 10-event schedule with total regular-season purses of approximately $75 million. This marks a sharp decline from previous years, where individual event purses reached $30 million.
The league has already faced operational setbacks, including the cancellation of events in New Orleans and Michigan, and reduced prize pools for recent tournaments. LIV Golf is currently facing multiple legal challenges from service providers seeking payment for unpaid invoices.
