LIV Golf's $40 Million Michigan Finale Remains on Schedule Despite Cancellation Rumors

LIV Golf's season‑ending team championship, offering a total purse of $40 million with $11.2 million for the winning team, is slated for Aug. 27‑30 at The Cardinal at Saint John’s Resort in Plymouth, Michigan. The event remains on the schedule according to Front Office Sports, although LIV Golf has provided no comment and the venue lacks tournament infrastructure and fan‑hospitality facilities. If the Michigan tournament does not proceed, only two individual stroke‑play events – LIV Golf New York (Aug. 6‑9) and LIV Golf Indianapolis (Aug. 20‑23) – will remain on the calendar.

Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund announced in April it will cease funding LIV Golf after the current season, prompting the league to seek new investors and develop a revised business model dubbed “LIV 2.0.” The deadline to finalize a 2027 plan is believed to be Sept. 1. Captain Martin Kaymer of Cleeks GC said there is roughly a 5% chance the Michigan finale will take place. Recent LIV action includes Australia’s Lucas Herbert winning the LIV Golf United Kingdom event in Rocester, England, which attracted about 50,000 spectators.
