LIV Golf Secures New Lead Investor to Sustain Tour After Saudi Funding Pullout

The Saudi Public Investment Fund announced it will stop financing LIV Golf after the 2026 season, leaving the breakaway league without its primary backer. CEO Scott O’Neil said LIV Golf has now signed a board‑approved term sheet with an unnamed lead investor, with the transaction expected to close in September. The league will also restructure so that players become majority equity owners and the schedule will be trimmed to ten events per year, split evenly between the United States and international venues.

While the new capital is intended to fund the league through 2027 and beyond, uncertainty remains over the season‑ending Team Championship in Michigan, scheduled for Aug. 27‑30, which several reports suggest may be cancelled. LIV Golf also disclosed strong interest from more than a dozen additional parties that could join as minority investors.
