Live Action rejects legal demand to stop using term ‘killing’ regarding abortion

The pro-life organization Live Action is refusing to comply with a cease-and-desist demand from Amplify Legal to stop using the word ‘killing’ when describing abortion. Amplify Legal, representing 13 individuals, claims that Live Action has published “false and defamatory” statements regarding women who sought abortion care.

Amplify Legal is the litigation arm of Abortion in America, an organization founded by Cecile Richards and funded through the Hopewell Fund. The legal demand asserts that Live Action’s coverage has caused devastating consequences for its clients, including death threats and fear for personal safety.

In response, Live Action, represented by the Thomas More Society, declined the demands. Peter Breen of the Thomas More Society stated that the organization will not desist from expressing the view that abortion takes the life of a living human being, characterizing the legal threat as an attack on First Amendment rights.
