Live music and major events drive surge in global event tourism
Live music and major sporting events are increasingly driving global travel patterns, with fans often prioritizing artist lineups or tournament schedules over specific destinations. Research from Live Nation across 13 countries indicates that live music fans take 38% more trips annually than other travelers. Approximately 70% of fans plan their travel around tour dates, and 78% state that the performer or lineup is more important than the location when choosing a destination.
This shift in consumer behavior has significant economic implications. In the United Kingdom, music tourism spending reached a record £11.2 billion in 2025. Major concert tours in the UK have been estimated to generate £825 million in visitor spending on accommodations, dining, and travel.
Travelers attending these events tend to extend their stays, with 87% of fans staying for more than one night. Furthermore, 60% of a live music traveler's budget is spent on secondary expenses such as food, flights, and lodging, rather than the event ticket itself. This trend is creating new opportunities for travel agents to integrate premium event access into bespoke itineraries.
