Live music ticket prices rise amid high demand

The average cost of a concert ticket has risen significantly, reaching approximately $133 last year compared to a $96 average in 2019, according to data from Pollstar. This increase is driven by several factors, including inflation, the use of dynamic pricing models, and sophisticated resale tactics.

Experts attribute the surge in spending to a phenomenon known as “funflation,” where consumers prioritize live entertainment, sports, and theater following pandemic-related closures. High-profile tours from artists such as Taylor Swift and Beyoncé have further fueled demand, prompting fans to travel extensively for shows.

Goldman Sachs analysts project that the live music industry will see a compounded annual growth rate of 7.2% between 2024 and 2030, largely driven by Millennial and Gen Z consumers. The sector has demonstrated resilience, with spending in the U.S. remaining steady even during recent periods of economic uncertainty.
