Livenza River accident claims life of 69-year-old driver

A 69-year-old man has died after his vehicle plunged into the Livenza River in the La Salute area of San Stino di Livenza, near Venice. The driver, a local resident, was traveling with two hunting dogs when the car veered off the road and submerged in the river.

The accident was witnessed by a friend who was traveling in a separate vehicle. Emergency services, including divers from Venice and Portogruaro, as well as a boat equipped with an echo sounder from Padua, conducted search and recovery operations. The river's depth of over 10 meters and strong currents caused by the proximity to the river mouth complicated the efforts.

Authorities recovered the man's body from the vehicle, though operations to recover the two dogs were also noted. Preliminary investigations suggest the accident may have been caused by a sudden medical emergency, as no brake marks were found on the riverbank.
