Liver inflammation symptoms linked to alcohol consumption
Excessive alcohol consumption is a primary risk factor for liver disease, which can progress silently until reaching advanced stages such as cirrhosis. Cirrhosis involves the formation of scar tissue that progressively impairs liver function.
Medical experts, including surgical gastroenterologist Neeraj Dhamija, highlight several critical warning signs of liver inflammation that should not be ignored:
• Jaundice: A yellowing of the skin and the whites of the eyes caused by the accumulation of bilirubin. • Abdominal discomfort: Pain or sensitivity in the upper right region of the abdomen where the liver is located. • Nausea and intense abdominal pain.
Hepatologist Patrick Kennedy recommends maintaining liver health through healthy habits, including alcohol control and a varied diet to prevent the organ from becoming overwhelmed by toxins.
