Liverpool City Region receives funding for housing and waste reduction

The Liverpool City Region has secured significant funding for both housing and environmental sustainability. Under the Government’s Social and Affordable Homes Programme, the region will receive £380 million to support the construction of approximately 3,100 homes. Liverpool City Council Leader Liam Robinson noted that the investment aims to reduce reliance on temporary accommodation and address the growing demand for social housing.

In a separate initiative, fifteen community organisations across the region have been awarded a share of £165,000 through the Zero Waste Community Fund 2026/27. This partnership between the Merseyside Recycling & Waste Authority (MRWA) and Veolia focuses on waste reduction, reuse, and recycling. Projects target high-priority materials including food, textiles, electronics, furniture, and plastics, with goals to implement sustainable habits by March 2027.
