Arsenal chase Newcastle captain Bruno Guimarães amid rejected offers

Arsenal have submitted an initial £55 million bid for Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimarães, which was quickly rejected by the Magpies. The Gunners are reported to be preparing a second, higher offer as they view the Brazilian midfielder as a top priority to strengthen their midfield for the defence of the Premier League title. Newcastle have made clear that Guimarães, who is under contract until June 2028 and has been a pivotal figure in their recent campaigns, is not for sale and have not received an official approach meeting their valuation.

In addition to Guimarães, Arsenal have been linked with teammate Sandro Tonali. Tonali, who also wishes to leave Newcastle, is said to prefer a move to Arsenal (or Manchester City) over Tottenham, whose £80 million bid was turned down. Arsenal have held talks with agents for both midfielders, while other clubs such as Manchester City and Liverpool have shown interest. The transfer saga is unfolding while both players feature for Brazil at the 2026 World Cup.
