Liverpool considers selling Frimpong and targeting Koundé

Liverpool FC is considering a sale of Jeremie Frimpong during the upcoming January transfer window due to his struggles adapting to the Premier League. Since joining from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2025 for £29.5 million, the 25-year-old defender has faced criticism for defensive shortcomings, most notably during a 0-3 loss to Manchester City.

The club is reportedly eyeing Barcelona defender Jules Koundé as a potential replacement. A move for the French international could cost approximately £60 million. However, any pursuit of Koundé may depend on Liverpool's decision regarding Ronald Araujo, who is currently at the club on a season-long loan from Barcelona with an option to buy for €55 million.

Liverpool's search for defensive stability is further complicated by injury concerns surrounding Conor Bradley, who is recovering from knee surgery. While Frimpong was initially brought in to provide offensive output following the departure of Trent Alexander-Arnold, his inability to secure a consistent starting role has prompted the club to accelerate plans for a right-back reinforcement.
