Liverpool diversifies into services and credit in Mexico

El Puerto de Liverpool is shifting its business strategy in Mexico to combat slowing economic growth and cautious consumer spending. The company is transforming its physical stores into multi-service hubs, incorporating amenities such as hair salons, manicures, restaurants, and technical support modules to increase foot traffic.

In addition to service expansion, the company’s financial division has become a primary growth engine. During the second quarter of 2026, the financial segment's revenue grew by 9.9%, reaching 6,028 million pesos. This outperformed the commercial segment, which saw only 0.4% revenue growth.

The company’s credit portfolio reached 75,248 million pesos by the end of June, a 9.5% annual increase. The total number of credit cards issued by the group rose to 8.84 million. While Liverpool’s card base grew to 6.47 million, Suburbia saw more rapid expansion in its financial products, reaching 2.37 million cards, a 12.9% increase compared to the previous year.
