Liverpool faces criticism over player exits and limited summer signings

Former Liverpool defender Steve Nicol said he was "completely befuddled" by the club’s summer transfer activity, noting that the Reds have lost Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson and Ibrahima Konaté on free transfers while only spending about £100 million on two incoming players – right‑back Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes for £60 million (including add‑ons) and centre‑back Victor Munoz from Osasuna for £34.5 million. Nicol described Munoz as a “head‑scratcher” and questioned whether the new signings will start.

Manager Andoni Iraola publicly stated that Liverpool needs “more” signings to compete on four fronts, echoing Nicol’s concerns about the squad’s depth in defensive positions. By contrast, Premier League rivals such as Manchester City, Manchester United, Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur have been active in the market, adding players like Elliot Anderson, Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans, Jovan Manzambi, João Gomes, Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali.
