Liverpool FC defends transfer strategy as Jeremy Jacquet excels
Liverpool FC is reportedly vindicated in its recent defensive recruitment strategy following the departure of former sporting director Richard Hughes. While Hughes faced criticism from fans for failing to secure Marc Guehi in the summer of 2025 and for the departure of Ibrahima Konate, recent performances suggest his decisions were strategic.
Instead of pursuing Guehi, Liverpool signed Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes for £55 million plus £5 million in add-ons. Despite initial skepticism regarding the high fee for a player with limited senior experience, the 21-year-old Frenchman has performed exceptionally well in the Premier League.
Reports indicate that Liverpool is confident Jacquet will develop into a superior player to Guehi, who joined Manchester City for £20 million shortly after Liverpool's pursuit of him collapsed. This shift in perception suggests that Hughes' management of the center-back position may be viewed as successful in the long term.
