Liverpool FC retains midfielder James McConnell amid squad changes

Liverpool FC has decided to retain 21-year-old midfielder James McConnell, halting a proposed loan move to Preston North End. The decision follows significant squad changes, including an agreement in principle for Curtis Jones to join Inter Milan in a deal worth £30 million.

Preston North End, Swansea City, and Leicester City had all expressed interest in securing McConnell to bolster their midfield options. However, Liverpool officials intervened to keep the player at Anfield to ensure depth in the central positions following the potential departure of Jones and uncertainty regarding Wataru Endo.

McConnell, who is under contract with Liverpool until 2030, is expected to remain with the Premier League club at least until January.
