Liverpool Lime Street to close for essential track maintenance
Liverpool Lime Street station will be closed to overground trains on Sunday, November 8, to facilitate essential track maintenance in the Mossley Hill area. Network Rail plans to use specialist tamping trains to strengthen and compact the ballast, the track foundation, to ensure long-term safety and reliability.
The engineering works will prevent passenger trains from traveling through Mossley Hill, impacting multiple operators. Avanti West Coast services will be diverted via Earlestown under a revised timetable, while Northern services will operate only between Hunts Cross and Manchester Oxford Road, with replacement buses serving the Lime Street to Hunts Cross route.
TransPennine Express services between Liverpool Lime Street and Cleethorpes will terminate at Warrington Central, where replacement buses will connect passengers to Liverpool. East Midlands Railway will suspend services between Liverpool Lime Street and Sheffield, and London Northwestern Railway trains will begin and end at Liverpool South Parkway.
While overground services are affected, the station itself will remain open, and passengers can access the city center via the Merseyrail network and various rail replacement bus services. Travelers are advised to check journey details via National Rail enquiries before traveling.
