Liverpool police arrest 82 protesters supporting banned Palestine Action

Police in Liverpool arrested 82 people during a protest organized by Defend Our Juries near the UK Labour Party conference. The demonstration, which drew approximately 180 to 250 participants, was held to protest the proscription of Palestine Action, a group designated as a terrorist organization by the UK government in July 2025.

Merseyside Police stated that the arrests were made under the Terrorism Act because demonstrators were suspected of displaying or carrying materials that expressed support for the proscribed organization. While many protesters were released on bail, 79 others were reported to appear before the courts.

Amnesty International criticized the police action, describing the arrests as a ‘shameful attack on freedom of expression.’ Organizers of the protest have called on the government to lift the ban on Palestine Action, arguing that the proscription is ‘unreasonable, unsustainable, and immoral.’
