Liverpool police launch murder investigation after body found in Stanley Park
Police in Liverpool have launched a murder investigation after the body of a woman in her 70s was discovered in Stanley Park. The victim was found wrapped in a bin bag within the park's walled garden area on a Friday evening. Detectives believe the body may have been in the park for several weeks.
The victim is described as a white woman, approximately 1.57 meters (5’2”) tall, with strawberry blonde hair. At the time of discovery, she was wearing a pink Nike shirt. Authorities have not yet been able to identify the woman and are currently cross-referencing missing persons reports from the Merseyside area and beyond.
Detective Superintendent Rachel Wilson stated that officers are conducting door-to-door inquiries in the Anfield area and are appealing to the public for information. Wilson noted, “We understand that this will be distressing and worrying for people to hear and I want the local community to be reassured that we are doing everything in our power to find the person or persons responsible and bring them to justice.”
The discovery has caused significant concern among local residents and park visitors, some of whom expressed feeling less safe using the area.
