Liverpool targets Nico Schlotterbeck to bolster defense

Liverpool is reportedly prioritizing the recruitment of a new centre-back to strengthen its defensive line, with Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck identified as a primary target. The 26-year-old German international is highly regarded for his technical ability, aerial strength, and versatility, though his long-term contract with Dortmund, which runs until 2031, may complicate transfer negotiations.

Other players on Liverpool's shortlist include Alessandro Bastoni of Inter Milan, Jules Koundé of Barcelona, and Nottingham Forest's Murillo. The club's interest in defensive reinforcements comes as the contracts of Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez approach their expiration dates. While recent signing Jeremy Jacquet has received praise for his partnership with Van Dijk, the club continues to look for long-term solutions in the defensive department.

In addition to centre-back targets, the club has faced scrutiny regarding depth at right-back. While Ronald Araujo has joined on loan from Barcelona, the recruitment department is reportedly evaluating further options to address positional gaps in the squad.
